Interviews about Writing

On October 3, I interviewed four people on campus during my writing class.  The subject of the interviews was writing and social networking.

The first person I talked to was an Asian student.  She said she didn't write a lot, and didn't use Twitter or blog.  However, her favorite form of social media was Facebook.  So far, same as me... Besides, she doesn't do reflective writing except for essays in class.  She thought the advantages of reflective writing might be practicing English and improving grammar skill.

The second person was an old lady.  She doesn't use social networking very much except for e-mail.  She does think any types of reflective sort is important and reflective writing is a skill that people need to practice.
The third person also doesn't use Twitter or blog.  Her favorite form of social media is instant messages.  She hardly does reflective writing; however, she uses only a notebook when she does because it is very personal thing.  She thinks it helps her to sort her thoughts.

So far, all of the sample don't use Twitter, blog or diary.  Therefore, I wasn't sure how Twitter was popular here because many people talked about Twittering, but actually, I thought not so many people might use it.

The last person writes on a blog but not very often.  She said she used approximately once a month.  Her favorite social media is Facebook & blog.  She does reflective writing whenever she feels like doing it.  She thinks it is good ways of recognizing what she accomplished and what she wants to be.

I don't write so much actually, yet I use Facebook a lot.  When I post some comments, I usually just write one or two sentenses because it is a kind of diary for me.  Of course, it is open-space, so I cannot write everything what I want.  However, I can post some pictures at the same time.  In fact, looking at pictures and reading / writing comments at the same time helps me recall many things.  In addition, it is really easy to post a simple sentense and I can enjoy reading other people's comments on my post.

"Being There" - reaction to the movie on a personal level-

In this movie, there are tons of parodies from many different kinds of sources.  During we saw the movie in the class, the teacher gave us the instruction about the background of some novels, ethics and philosophy.  Without them, it is difficult to figure out the hidden meaning.  For example, if I had any ideas on the Bible, I might have take the last scene for fantasy or something.  I suppose people are able to have fun watching this kind of humor from the surface; however, they may not understand the real signification.  Actually, it often happens when I see movies or TV.  I know Japanese culture, history and their sense of humor, so I can get the deeper purport far more easily.

That is the reason I believe having a lot of knowledge is quite important in order to understand the different culture.  I need to know their lifestyle, interests, history, religion, character, literature and so on.  I may get some ideas from movies or books; nevertheless, the importance is whether I attempt to absorb the knowledge in any opportunities or not.  When I wrote an assignments about this story, I looked for some information about Zarathustra.  I know about him just a little bit now but when I hear of him or listen to the music in another situation next time, I am sure the experience will help to understand more.  Anyway, I enjoyed the movie!!

Pizza & Movie Night!!

I had a blast last night!! I went to my speaking / listening teacher's house with all the classmates and had a party (kind of class...)  I went there with Sabrina & Aman.  Actually, Sabrina & I didn't know the route, but Aman found out how we could get there.  Consequently, we just followed him.
It was amazing time chatting with the classmates outside of the class and shared the time together.  People have so many different backgrounds; therefore, I always found interesting and enjoyable talking to people here.  They just came from other countries, so everything they told us was very fresh!!

After we chatted for a while, we began to watch a movie which is called "The Shawshank Redemption". I had heard the title before; however, I had never seen it.  Also, I've heard it is well-made & the story is touching, so my expectation was really high!!!! That is true that the actors in the movies were great...but it made me feel blue a bit.... Actually, it was too late to finish the movie, so we decided to leave the house before the end.  I would love to watch it again and finish next time!!

Home Party!!

I'm gonna go to the S/L teacher's house to have a home party tonight!! It's a part of a class, though....
She's going to order pizzas, and the students are able to bring food there.  Therefore, I prepared salad which is my favorite.  My mother would make the salad when I was at home.
It has, of cource, lettuce, onion, red paprika, tuna, boiled egg and short pasta ;)  It tastes really good with ketchup & mayo!!
Besides, we are going to see a movie there!  I can't wait!!

my first blog!

Hi, this is Marisa!
I watch movies, read novels, travel and go to cafes for fun!  I enjoy going to cafes especially because of cinnamon rolls :)
I sometimes like writing...but not assignments... I had tried to keep a diary which was mixed in Japanese & English since I came to Vancouver.  However, I failed after a month...
